So for production, the team set up shop in New Trier Township High School, an abandoned school in Winnetka, Illinois where Hughes also filmed Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Uncle Buck. According to Home Alone crew members who appeared on the show, screenwriter John Hughes wanted to make as many movies as possible in Chicago, away from the Hollywood studio system.
